We are a meat eating society and never think twice about it until every now & then when we hear some hype on it. You know, like about how hard it is on the body to digest and all the hormones & antibiotics we ingest when we eat it! Eeww – is this true? There are always 2 sides of the story, maybe in some cases 3 sides! The 3rd, of course, being the safe, or neutral side! We tend to rationalize our behavior by thinking there’s good and there’s bad this way we can partake without feeling guilty.
Make your own decisions and come to your own conclusions, that’s best! Do your own studying and find the truth out on your own! Don’t take what you are told by the big money making industries themselves, pharmaceutical co’s & even the FDA for solid truth. Let your body talk! Have you tried that? For instance, if you have joint pain & stiffness and find yourself limping around for a while after rising from a sitting or lying position, try going to a plant based diet. Just try it. Let your body tell you if uric acid was the cause. Your body reacts fast, you won’t be waiting weeks or months for a response, as it is most the time with medication. Besides, once medication takes effect, you’ll be dealing with ‘side’ effects and then needing to treat them as well.
A very common trend in agribusiness is the use of hormones in livestock to increase milk production and enhance muscle growth. Hey…whatever it takes to make or increase profit, right? PUH-LEASE don’t tell me that “when used in moderation these hormones pose no serious threats to the consumer!” Go sell crazy somewhere else, I’m not buying it! Insult on top of insult.
If that isn’t enough they use antibiotics to prevent malnutrition since the hormones injected will cause the animals to produce massive amounts of milk which is not the normal and safe circumstance. In addition, they are used to ward of illness and boost the meat yield in livestock. People who eat meat are also eating the hormones, chemicals and antibiotics, which in turn will cause resistance to antibiotics used to treat themselves if and when needed. It’s CRAZY! If you must eat meat, fish, chicken & pork…go organic!
Here’s an except from an article I recently read:
…the adrenal glands of the animals will have remained inactive and weakened throughout its entire life–until it gets slaughtered. The sudden jolt of the adrenal glands for the first time will release adrenaline accompanied by high cholesterol levels, and high blood pressure. When put together, the combination of the three will only harm people who will consume its meat. The end result? Diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Addison’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease.
I simply don’t need to read much more than a few reports on this subject matter to know that not eating meat is the right choice for me. All these reports say the same thing. We know all about what animals are given, yet somehow we choose to believe that we will suffer no harm from eating them. Why? Where’s our common sense being applied here?
A high-protein diet consisting of mainly meat will also cause bone loss and osteoporosis. Studies have proven that the likelihood of getting bone loss problems is directly proportional to the consumption of protein, not just the loss of calcium. The relationship of eating meat and having cancers of the colon, pancreas, and breast is also very hard to ignore.
Summer time seems to be a big time for cook-outs! But then again, anytime is a great time for them! People load up on the meats and hit the grill! Everynight it’s something different…steak one night, ribs the next, chicken & fish another and BBQ pork yet another night! All this meat going in, but the steak from 3 nights ago is still processing! Gosh! But it’s all fun and games until a health crisis arises! Very sad! I’ll keep on enjoying my grilled veggies thank you!
Research is good! Read, read and read more! And like I previously said “listen to your body talk to you!”
Fruits & vegetables, legumes, gluten free grains…they all are your friends! They will be kind to you! Give your mind, body and especially your digestive system some extra loving care and enjoy the gifts from Mother Nature! When you eat a well-rounded diet, one that is filled with these things I just mentioned, you will be healthy inside and out! Your body will be lacking for nothing! Eat up! Smile and be happy!
Love, Mary
