He’s a man…He’s just a man
Men…what are they all about? Some say that men and women are like night and day. Remember the book Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus? Actually, I never read the book, but I think the gist of it can be found in the title. Again, insinuating that men and women are completely different. Well, it may be true, however I am no psychiatrist or relationship counselor. I have experience through life though, and have a pretty good idea myself on how men and women differ. That’s going to be a very fun article for me to write, but not now.
Today I want to talk about my blog reader, Allen Rohner’s, comment and question about if men experience anything similar to menopause, which women go through. My answer, short and sweet, is SURE they do. With age, both men and women experience change. I would like to first mention prostate care. All men should be made aware of the importance of this. More and more we hear men report about erectile dysfunction, urinating problems, fertility problems, and sadly – a high rise in cases of prostate cancer.
Truly, truly I say to you, that the answer to just about any disease prevention, and/or cure, will be through diet. Keep in mind that what that diet should be depends on who you speak to. But overall, I believe it is documented medically, that a diet that is too high in meat, dairy and starches and not high enough in vegetables and fruits will greatly hinder the body and affect the prostate. They should be reduced as much as possible and replaced with fruits and vegetables. Of course, my belief is that one should eliminate them all together. I don’t believe that we need (require) meat and dairy for our bodies to thrive, as we get all the protein we need from plant life alone, as well as calcium without consuming dairy products. I’m sure the dairy and meat industry hate people like me, but if you do your own research, I’m sure you’ll learn the truth for yourself and find yourself agreeing with me and many others.
If you are concerned about getting iron, protein and calcium, there are a wealth of vegetables available that will supply those nutrients and minerals plus more including beans – legumes, whole (gluten free) grains, and green vegetables. And as you quite often hear me say, it is also good to eat the foods that are in season in the area you live in. They supply your body with what it needs in accordance to the season and environment, and ensures you are eating a wide variety and not just the same foods over and over. Men who are sexually active should double up on fruits and vegetables high in zinc.
God designed our bodies to be perfect and Mother Nature has provided to us all the foods we require to be just that – she has our best interest at heart! Here are some wonderful, all natural foods to assist with prostate care:
- All green vegetables especially spinach, cabbage, and broccoli
In addition to a diet change, it’s equally important to get exercise, drink lots of water and also get sunlight – Vitamin D!
There are many natural herbal supplements for prostate care as well. The herbs that a man should take for proper & optimal prostate care would include:
- Pumpkin Seed
- Stinging Nettle
- Saw Palmetto
- Horny Goat Weed
- Black Walnut Hulls
Men should begin prostate care as early as possible, and definitely once they hit 40. But it’s never too late, start today and enjoy the difference!
Loss of Libido is also a concern. As like women, men too can experience loss of sexual desire. It’s hard to believe, but it’s true! The #1 culprit, as with just about all illness, symptom or disease, is…STRESS! Surprised? I’m not. Stress and exhaustion go hand in hand, and these two are quite the pair to ruin your party, put a damper on your life, and just an overall buzz kill. So relax, get your rest, and then get your groove on. There are numerous herbal remedies out there, I suggest reading up! Many medications can cause loss of libido. Hopefully your doctor warned you, if not, you may want to inquire. But doctors don’t always have all the answers, so even if they say ‘no,’ maybe it truly does, they just don’t know it yet. Let your body tell you. Depression medications are infamous for putting the squeeze on your libido. Again, I am not a doctor, but let me put it to you this way…GET HAPPY NATURALLY, and then you won’t have to take the medication. Find your spiritual side, pray, exercise, join groups that suit your interests, etc. I have a GREAT book to recommend for anyone, man or woman, who is facing depression or challenges today (who isn’t, right?). The book is called – Facing Your Giants, by Max Lucado. This is a MUST read, I’m sure you too will find it quite inspiring and helpful in many ways.
So let’s continue. Men… ahhh yes, mennnnn, they are not boys anymore. Actually retirement signals a new beginning. A chance to travel to exotic places or develop new interests and hobbies. But guess what, if you didn’t take the proper care earlier in life, then your retirement may not be trouble-free. Plus, if you were a work-aholic, then this time requires major readjustments – and that may be difficult. Saying adios to your status and work companionships, not to mention a reduced income, could lead to depression as well as loss of self-esteem. Every man is different, but the possibilities are real and are out there. Whatever you do, don’t get into a sedentary lifestyle. Exercise, walk, bowl, golf, garden, ride a bike…just stay active!
Yes men, as you age you can look forward to many frustrations: aching limbs, lack of stamina, insomnia, and more. Men and woman alike need to accept that physical energies are gradually slowing down. Therefore, I cannot emphasize enough how we have to stay as healthy as possible, and live life to its fullest. As we get older, it is now that the years of the abuse we gave to our bodies begin to surface. Reversing years of damage is possible. The ME-gan Lifestyle talks all about this.
Keep your cholesterol and blood pressure levels down – we all know how important that is. Keep your weight down, another crucial factor for a healthy mind and body.
Bottom line, yes men do go through similar symptoms to women. However with men, their symptoms last for decades and increase in difficulties as time goes by. Common symptoms are: weight gain, decreased libido, hair loss, self-esteem issues, fatigue, depression, memory loss, and relationship issues. Loss of testosterone, beginning at the age of 40, can instigate these issues, and is referred to as andropause (as opposed to menopause for women), also referred to as climacteric male menopause. What to do? Again, the best treatment (and common advice from doctors to their patients) is…CHANGE YOUR DIET, and get exercise! Exercise releases endorphins (there is no pill that does this) and will naturally and quickly kick your depression to the curb! But it’s kind of a catch 22, because when you are depressed you don’t feel like exercising. So say a prayer, get inspired, and then get your butt up and exercise! You can’t get something for nothing.
Men, are you tired of always looking for your keys, your glasses and your wallet? Then get on the good foot and off the wrong track! Embrace the ME-gan Lifestyle and ease into middle and older age! It’s never too late for change. Eating right and exercise pays off. And just a special note from me to you – a low-fiber diet can weaken the bowel wall, and create pouches (diverticuli), which become inflamed and infected by trapped food particles – diverticulitis.
