Does not even the bible say there is a time for everything and a season for everything under heaven? Then why oh why do we jump ahead these days? Christmas movies are on TV and Christmas songs are playing on the radio already. It’s Thanksgiving time, not Christmas. I want to embrace and feel the warmth of Thanksgiving all by itself.
As kids we LOVED singing
Over the river and through the woods to Grandmothers house we go…the horse knows the way to carry the sleigh through the white and drifted snow…….
Technically, that may be a Christmas song, but as kids we knew it as a Thanksgiving song. I can tell you for sure that we were not singing God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen at Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is a time of not only feast beyond compare, but friends and family from all around gather near. It goes without saying that it’s a time of ‘Giving Thanks.’
When my children were young and still at home, we would all write down what we were thankful for, and then after dinner, but before we left the table, we would share what we had written.
Reflection, prayer, thanks and sharing of food, drink and good times – what more could one ask? Yes, there is a season and a time for everything and everyone.
Perhaps you can invite a less fortunate family into your home this year and share your God given gifts and blessings with them for the day. There are so many homeless people that we must do what we can to help and most of all keep them in our prayers.
Let us enjoy this precious and sweet time of Thanksgiving that will, like all things, pass too quickly. Then we can move on to Christmas.
I am very, very thankful this year for all of my many blessings. God bless you and may you enjoy this Thanksgiving season with those you love and cherish most.
Thankful love to you all!
