Since I’ve started incorporating Weight Watchers into the ME-gan Lifestyle, I have basically lost weight everyday. Even if it’s only a few ounces at a time, it’s still a loss and not a stand still or an increase. That’s what I am after! Eating less is the answer to losing weight; it’s not a scientific finding…it’s just the way it works. If I could exercise more I would lose weight faster, but I’ve only been able to do some swimming. It’s just too hot to do anything else, and my tennis elbow that I got 3 months back playing racquetball with my son has really limited me – it’s quite frustrating! Excuses…excuses…they’re all true, but they’re excuses! 🙂
Anyway, since my exercise level is on the low right now, it’s crucial that I watch my caloric intake, and that is exactly what I’m doing. Here are a few eating tips and mindsets that have helped me to be extremely successful with this challenge:
- Little to none processed food
- Lots of fruits and vegetables
- Tofu once or twice a week
- Beans, lentils, peas, (legumes)
- Wild grain rice
- Cooking with olive oil ‘spray’ vs. traditional olive oil, or just plain water
- When eating salads, I squeeze fresh lemon on top and use my fresh, homemade salsa as the dressing instead of olive oil; a little sea salt & fresh black pepper – couldn’t be better!
- Steaming vs. sauteing
- A glass of almond coconut milk each day
- A teaspoon of Flax-oil once or twice a week.
- Staying focused, positive and motivated (I can’t say any of these are easy during these trying economic times – but we must press on!)
- Limiting my alcohol consumption
- Prayer
- Wanting to be healthy so I can live a long happy life with those I love
5 lbs is not THAT much, but then again I don’t have a whole lot to lose. I could be wrong, but I think the less you have to lose, the harder it becomes to lose it. Also, my daily allotted WW points is now lower than when I started, which obviously means eating even less. I can tell you this, it feels great to be in control and on top of your game! By me taking on this challenge, I have set guidelines for myself and have applied self-discipline – this is much to be proud of. The alternative, which would be having no self-control, no guidelines and no discipline, leads to a false sense of satisfaction and much guilt. Not to mention the health issues that can and will arise.
Take that GIANT LEAP to self-improvement and feel better all around!
ME-gan love,
Mary
